CBD Basics

CBD is short for Cannabidiol. It is one of the naturally occurring chemical compounds in the hemp plant and is known for its revitalizing and therapeutic properties. Unlike its infamous cousin, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD doesn’t cause any psychoactive effects.

CBD works by interacting with the cannabinoid receptors in the human body. Refer to About Page for a more detailed discussion on this magical plant chemical.

The three terms refer to the chemical compound found in different types of CBD extracts or oils.

Full-spectrum CBD, as the name suggests, includes all cannabinoids and plant compounds found in hemp. Broad-spectrum CBD has all hemp compounds except THC. CBD isolate is the isolated or pure CBD. CBD isolate usually comes in crystalline or powdered form and is the purest form of Cannabidiol.

Visit our About Page page for a more detailed discussion on the difference between the different types of CBD.

The term ‘Hemp extract oil’ refers to Hemp extract containing a wide spectrum of plant compounds and not just CBD, as in CBD oil.

Terpenes are aromatic compounds that give plants their unique fragrance. They are commonly associated with cannabis and present in many plants. The cannabis plant, however, has higher concentrations of terpenes.

‘The Entourage Effect’ is a theory popularized by a neurology physician Dr. Ethan Russo, in 2011. The theory suggests that the therapeutic effects of cannabis increase when all the compounds naturally found in the plant work in a synergistic manner. In terms of CBD products, this would mean that the more cannabis compounds a product has, the more benefits it will offer.

CBDA is one of the acids that form in the cannabis plant during the growth process, from the free molecules. It is a precursor to CBD, which is a similar, but non-acidic cannabinoid. CBDA is converted into CBD when the plant is processed, i.e. heated, dried, or cured. This means raw hemp plant and raw, unprocessed cannabis products are rich in CBDA, whereas the processed ones are packed with CBD.

Both CBD and CBDA are non-intoxicating cannabinoids.

Raw CBD extract, as the name suggests, is the one that hasn’t been refined and contains a full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes, similar to the raw hemp plant.

Refined is another name for broad-spectrum CBD. This rich, golden-coloured CBD extract is processed to remove the undesirable component –THC. It still contains all other cannabinoids and terpenes.

Pure CBD extract is the one containing only CBD isolate.

There is no standard or fixed dosage of CBD. It varies from person to person, depending on their tolerance level and how their bodies react to the CBD. To determine the optimal dosage of CBD, it is recommended to start small and then gradually increase the dose until you experience the desired effects.

We recommend starting from the dose of 5mg to 10mg per day and gradually build it up, depending on the results.

The average daily dose of CBD is between 30mg to 50mg. The maximum daily dose recommended by the Food Standards Agency (FSA)is 70mg.

Taking high dosages of CBD can give a false positive result during the first phase of immunological screening. When a drug test comes out positive, the procedure requires more thorough testing to determine the presence of THC, which is only present in full-spectrum CBD. At GOGO, however,we strictly follow legal guidelines and make sure that the concentration of THC is less than 0.3% in our full-spectrum CBD products, which doesn’t register on a drug test.

CBD is non-intoxicating and does not cause the “high” that’s generally associated with cannabis. The component that’s responsible for the euphoric feeling is THC.

Even the full-spectrum CBD products manufactured according to the laws governing CBD-industry do not cause “high” because of the very low THC concentration. Legally, CBD products should not have more than 0.3% of THC.

The time it takes for CBD to provide the desired results depends on the type of product you’re using, its quality and dosage, consumption method, and your body. Since every product and individual is different, the time varies.

We always recommend new CBD users to start with small dosages of a low-strength product that the user is comfortable with. All GOGO products are great for new users. However, our CBD-infused teas and coffees give users greater control over the strength; you can always lower their strength by diluting them with water or milk.

CBD is generally safe for consumption and is often well-tolerated. However, it can cause light-headedness, nausea, weakness, or dizziness if taken on an empty stomach. This is because CBD affects blood sugar levels. When taken on an empty stomach, it can drop the blood sugar level, resulting in these issues. To avoid these negative effects, always take CBD products with a meal or as directed.

CBD, or any drug per se, can interact with certain medications. Therefore, if you are taking any medicine, we strongly recommend consulting a healthcare professional before consuming CBD.

It is not addictive. No cases of CBD abuse or addiction have been identified or reported in humans or animals so far.

Of course we do. For the full lab test you can review the LAB REPORTS section on our website.

The majority of experts and the FDA strongly recommends that pregnant and breastfeeding individuals refrain from using CBD, THC, or marijuana in any form.

Some parents and caregivers turn to commercially manufactured CBD to manage certain conditions in children, such as anxiety, hyperactivity, and symptoms of autism in children on the spectrum. Despite promising research on CBD, particularly in the realm of seizure control, its safety and effectiveness have not been thoroughly examined. The decision to administer CBD to children varies among parents, with some feeling comfortable with it while others do not.
